Selection of materials

Cutting material

On the prepared fabric we measure the required dimensions - it turns out a rectangle with sides of 210x250 cm. We fold it four times, aligning the ends. Now we take the corner where the 4 free ends of the fabric have gathered, measure 15 cm from the angle to the right and to the left. The height of the rim is + 10 cm. In our case, it is 25cm. Feel free to cut out a small square measuring 25x25cm. Pattern is ready. It is a rectangle with cut corners.

Sewing sheets

First of all we fold our cut squares diagonally face down. We stitch it on a typewriter, then we process it on an overlock or “zigzag”. Also we process all edges of a cloth, except edge.

The next stage: we make a drawstring for the gum. Fold the edge around the perimeter to the width of the selected gum + 2 cm allowance, we scribble. Inexperienced dressmakers are advised to first iron the hemmer, and even better to outline.

There are two options for hemming:

• single,
• double.

In the first case we fold it once and sew it, in the second - we fold it twice. But the first layer of matter is doing less.

It is important to remember to leave a hole for pulling the elastic. How much will it need? Two times smaller than the perimeter of our canvas.

After completing the seam, feel free to insert the gum with an ordinary pin. The edges of the gum sew.

If you need to sew a sheet for a crib 120x60 cm, then the fabric for the oval will be that size plus 5 cm. The seam allowance. It turns out 125x65 cm. We fold the matter four times. So, we cut the strips for facing. Now sew them with a linen seam. We fold the oval and facing with the front sides to each other, mark and stitch. Sew round sheet in the same way as oval. The difference in cutting out the circle.

For example, the diameter of the mattress is 150 cm, the height of the side is 15 cm.
