In case you encounter a computer chair malfunction, you need to find out exactly which part needs to be repaired. One of the most common causes of breakage is gas lift, as the part that is most susceptible to wear.

Home-made repair will not be able to restore the full functionality of the office chair

There are two ways to fix a broken gas lift breaker. The first option is to replace the defective part with a new one, no matter what, from the whole chair or purchased in the store.

This method can be considered expensive, since it will require the purchase of a whole gas lift. To replace, you need the following tool kit:

1. carpenter's hammer;
2. pliers;
3. bolt with a diameter of not less than 10 mm;

• Without overturning, we remove the seat itself, for which we unscrew the four mounting screws and move the protective cover over the legs. We knock out the gas lift from the mechanism, for which we use a bolt and a hammer, if the swing mechanism is not separated, you can add technical lubricant.

• We do the same with the crosspiece, but here you may need pliers, as the bolt may not be enough. Tap the edges with force, and try not to hit the gas chamber in the center, as its damage can be life threatening. Keep in mind that over time, the fastening can become compacted and poorly detach, in this case use technical grease at the junction.
• The most difficult thing behind is to assemble the chair back. All actions are carried out in the reverse order: we fasten the seat back to the swing mechanism, do not forget to check the compliance of the front side of both parts. Assemble the crosspiece, putting the wheels in place, and insert the new gas lift with the bottom side into the corresponding hole.

• Put on the protective cover and install the seat on top (do not forget to remove the protective cap), now you can sit on the chair and check the performance of the new gas lift and lever that presses its button.

The second method is cheaper; it consists in fixing the gas lift in one position. However, this method eliminates the ability to adjust the height of the chair, but if you need the same height, it is quite suitable. You will need:

1. screwdriver;
2. a pipe, a rubber hose, or a set of washers, depends on what you have on hand;
3. a rag to remove traces of oil.

Before starting the repair, it is important to make sure that there is no gas in the gas-lift and that the gas chamber has free travel up and down, that is, if the height adjustment lever is loose. Only after that follow the instructions.

According to the instructions presented earlier, we remove the chair along with the swing mechanism, leaving the crossbar.

Knock down the cross with the mallet from the chair, you need to hit as close as possible to the middle, alternately from different sides of the pneumatic cartridge

We turn it upwards and in the center we see the latch, remove it, and then remove the washers coated with oil. Having done this, you can pull out the outer casing, from which the lifting rod sticks out, on which the rubber damper, thrust washer, bearing and the second thrust washer are mounted.

Next, select the delivery, which we fix on the lifting rod, thereby securing the height of the chair at a certain level. You can use any material from PVC pipe to the hose and washers with nuts, as long as it is freely put on the rod.

We make the tube of the desired length, with an inner diameter not less than the diameter of the axis

Measure the required length of the hose and secure it with a damper, then attach the thrust washer, bearing, second washer and insert the structure back into the gas lift housing.

We put the tube on the axle, and then the gum (if it is still alive) and the washers with the bearing

Reassemble the gas lift by installing the outer washers and the latch. The chair is ready.

Replacing the cross

A separate case is worth noting breakage crosses. Although this item is made of highly durable materials, its failure is not excluded, especially if it is made of plastic.

After disconnecting the crosspiece, install the wheels on a new one and insert the second part of the chair into the hole. You can not worry about the incompatibility, since the fastening of the gas lift in all office chairs is standardized.
