What to do with a computer mouse pad
The support for the mouse is not just an accessory, but a necessary thing that facilitates the work. And although the stores have a sufficient selection of different models, the rug can be made independently. And such a stand will have a lot of advantages: it fits perfectly in size, pleases the eye, and, finally, it’s just nice that you made a creative and useful thing with your own hands.

What can replace the mouse pad?
It turns out that there are no irreplaceable things. And the stand can also be replaced by what you have at hand. For example:
- a notebook;
- tiles;
- thick cardboard;
- glossy magazine wrapped file.
For laser models, rugs with any surface are used: from glass to leather. The trajectory does not change and the speed of response to the team, too.
And for optical it is better to use accessories with a matte surface, otherwise the mouse may “slip”. You should not take a fabric stand, since the beam will “linger” between the fibers.
How to make a mouse pad with your own hands: instructions
Linoleum mat
Create another alternative at home will help a piece of flooring.
We cut a stand measuring 24x20 cm. The edges are made slightly rounded so that it is more convenient to work with this accessory.
Complicate the task and do a truly exclusive thing. Let's try to make decoupage on the surface of linoleum. We will need napkins with an interesting pattern.
Cut the fragments and glue on the linoleum. Carefully coat with glue. When the surface is dry, apply several layers of special varnish for decoupage.
Cardboard mat
That's really true, rug made of scrap materials. For work, you can use a corrugated cardboard or part of a conventional shoe box. And so that the accessory does not “drive” on the table surface, we use a special anti-slip layer for furniture. So that the cardboard surface does not look dull, we use paper for creativity or wrapping paper with an interesting print.
Glue the wrapping paper onto the cardboard surface. And on top we fix a self-adhesive film. In the process, we smooth the film well so that there are no wrinkles and bubbles. Thanks to this surface, the mouse will be better to slide, and the service life of the accessory will increase significantly.
From the tablet for papers
It has the desired density and size.
Attach black paper on top of the tablet (so that the beam of the mouse does not give glare).
Place a white sheet over the black layer. Elementary model is ready. But it can be made more interesting, for example, to take a colored sheet or with an ornament. Make sure that the stand is not too smooth.
Leather rug
Homemade leather stand - a very creative thing. Even the simplest model looks stylish. Such a masterpiece is created without any special undertaking: two pieces of leather are folded and glued together. If you have skills working with a sewing machine, it is better to stitch.
For such a model suitable bootleg, leather suitcase or bag, jacket fragments. It is better if the skin is dense in texture.
And if you take pieces of different skin and apply a little imagination, then you get this masterpiece. An unusually pleasant thing, both externally and to the touch.
Important! It is better to stick a layer of foam to the thin skin from the back side, or a piece from a tourist rug.
Plexiglas rug
To create a support for a mouse from plexiglas only those who have the skill of working with this material can afford. But the result is amazing!
To work will require:
- LEDs;
- plexiglass;
- sheet of thick paper;
- USB cable;
- wine bottle cork;
- a piece of wire;
- Super glue.
Getting Started.
- First, check the "performance" of the LEDs. To do this, we connect the cable wiring with LEDs, fasten with pliers.
- The basis of the future mat is cut out of plexiglass. The shape and size are chosen at your discretion.
- From the cork we will make “legs” for the rug. To do this, use a stationery knife to cut 4 parts 5 mm wide each from the cork.
- Glue the legs to the Plexiglas.
- On the same side where the legs glue the LEDs.
- From the front side we glue a sheet of thick paper.
Thanks to a sheet of paper, the light is soft and diffused, which makes working with a rug more comfortable.
Made of foam
It will take:
- foam;
- sharp knife;
- acrylic paints (can be gouache);
- Scotch;
- sealant spray for final surface treatment.
Cut out the base from the foam. Scotch glue the boundaries of the fragments of different colors. We paint the product. In the conclusion we cover with sealant in several layers.
Cork mats
To make such a stand at home, absolutely no skills are required. A piece of cork leaf give the desired shape.
To make it easier, use a scotch tape as a stencil for painting work. Thanks to him, smooth and clear boundaries are obtained when coloring the stand.
Features of the manufacture of the game pad
It must have special characteristics. First of all, slippage is excluded. On the other hand, the mouse should move as easily as possible on the mat.
Cut out the base of the future stand from a piece of karemat (izolon will also do). In size, this model is much more than the usual supports.
Then on the upper part (the foil remains at the bottom) we place a self-adhesive film. So that it does not twist, complicating the process, we pre-iron it with an iron. Then on the lower plane we glue double-sided tape and fasten the mat to the table.
Can I do without a rug?
A few decades ago, it was almost impossible to imagine working at a computer without this accessory. It was the same required component, such as, for example, a keyboard or a system unit. And all because the mice were extremely mechanical, which, without a special surface, very much "hampered" the work at the computer.
So to be or not to be? Today this question is very relevant for active computer users. The main reason for the use of supports for computer mice - the maximum ease of operation. If this accessory is not used, then scratches will appear on the tabletop very quickly. And the mouse itself will wear out faster.
In general, if you answer the question clearly, then yes, you can do without a rug. But this decision will entail a number of consequences. First, the computer desk will quickly lose its original appearance and will become unusable, and secondly, the mouse will need to be changed frequently.
If you "live" at the computer, it is better to use a special accessory. If you are not a frequent guest at the computer desk, then perhaps it makes no sense to purchase this accessory.
At home, you can create a creative mouse pad. It will be cheaper than buying in the company store, and, at the same time, no less convenient.
