How to lay bedding
Perhaps most of all places in any linen closet take bedding. It doesn’t matter if there is a baby set or a family one, one and a half bed or a euro size - each includes a sheet, at least one duvet cover (and often two) and pillowcases. Given that there are several sets in any house, it turns out a whole bunch of things!
There are not so many places in our closets, so the question of how to compactly roll up bed linen is relevant for most.
There are several options for folding bedding. The most common methods are:
- classic (piles);
- vertical;
- storage set in a pillowcase.

Classic method
The essence of this method lies in the traditional storage of linen sets in stacks. In order to have less space in the closet, an important step is the preliminary ironing: this will make things as compact as possible.
The ironing process can be replaced by thoroughly shaking the items before drying. True, shaking a duvet cover or a sheet so that they become more or less even, is not so easy: you will need a certain force.
Items set neatly, corner to corner, rolled into small rectangles (for example, half and half duvet covers or sheets fold about ten times, pillowcases - into four) and put them on each other in piles. Then the stacks are placed on the shelf of the cabinet or in the drawer of the dresser.
The disadvantages of the method is the difficulty in removing linen from the shelves: with a high degree of probability when you try to get one set, you will touch or doubt another.
Vertical method
This way of adding bed linen came to us from Japan. Things are not rolled up into flat rectangles, but into thick rolls, and are not placed on each other, but put in rows.
So, if the standard duvet cover folded in the classical way is folded three times more (of course, it all depends on the size), then the result will be a small rectangular bundle, and it should be stored, "putting" on the narrow part. Sheets and pillowcases "put" next.
This option of storing clothes is convenient because you can immediately find the desired accessories, and getting them is quite simple.
However, for things stacked in this way, either a special niche or high drawers of a dresser is required: it is inconvenient to keep them on a standard shelf in a regular cabinet.
Set in a pillowcase
Very convenient is the option of storing rolled bed linen in a pillowcase. This method has almost no flaws: different things are not confused, neat piles take up little space, and it’s very easy to get the right set without hurting others.
Consider step by step how to put a linen set in a pillowcase:
- iron out things (or gently straighten and shake them off before drying);
- carefully fold the quilt cover to the corner (approximately ten additions) so that it fits easily into the pillowcase;
- also gently roll the sheets into a flat rectangle;
- roll up all the pillowcases (except the one in which we will “pack” the kit);
- put all the items in a set in one pile;
- put the pile in the remaining pillowcase, straighten the edges and fold them so that the linen is in a peculiar bag.
The resulting packaged piles are put on the shelf in the cupboard - and you're done!
Bedding with elastic
Recently sheets on an elastic band become more and more popular: it is convenient in use, practical, do not get off after a dream. However, it may be difficult to fold them neatly during storage.
There is an easy way to compactly roll up the sheets on an elastic band. To do this, you need to straighten the sheet and alternately put all its corners in one. In the resulting rectangle it is necessary to straighten all the folds, and then fold it as it will be convenient (depending on the chosen storage method).
Rules for storing linen in the closet
To keep the bedding fresh and smell good, even after staying in the closet for several months, you need to follow a few simple storage rules:
- in no case do not keep clothes in plastic bags - this can cause a musty smell;
- on the shelf where the laundry is stored, you can put aromatic sachets, orange peels or a piece of soap without packaging;
- only completely dried things can be put in the closet, otherwise the smell of dampness is assured.
