Features of hinged curtains
Like any model, hinged curtains have their strengths and weaknesses. However, the advantages still outweigh.
- Elegant appearance. When the fabric and loops are made of the same fabric, the impression of integrity is created. And if you choose contrasting materials - it looks creative.
- Portieres are not damaged by metal or plastic fasteners;
- At the time of opening or closing the curtains there is no noise, the canvas moves easily;
- Even nondescript at first glance curtains, you can "paint" by bright loops. The material for the loops may vary;
- The harmonious combination of contrast loops with ruffles and frills of the same color looks impressive;
- Such curtains pertinently supplement any interior decision.
- Looped hinges will hold both massive curtains and lightweight tulle.
If we talk about the shortcomings, then he, perhaps, only one - wear loops. But, firstly, it will not happen so quickly, and secondly, the loop can be easily replaced. If desired, this problem can be solved by inserting an additional layer of synthetic fabric into the loops. In this case, the wear resistance increases, and the hinges will be easier to slide along the track.
Loops are divided into two types:
- deaf;
- removable.
Deaf loops are sewn into the canvas, and removable loops are attached using various tools. It can be buttons, velcro, strings. The range of possible options is huge, if fantasy allows - think up your exclusive version. You will not break any rules, in this case experiments are only welcome.
Options for different rooms
The most common model is straight linen with loops of the same fabric. However, time makes its own adjustments, and the Roman version is becoming more and more suitable for many. Roman blinds surely entered our daily life relatively recently, and seem to have settled for a long time. A variety of designs, a wide color palette and maximum functionality made them mandatory in different style interiors. And the model with fastening on hinges is in demand more than ever.
If there is a desire to add such a model of curtains with lambrequins or flounces - this is permissible, but it is better if the additional elements will also be attached on hinges.
For kitchen
An interesting detail: hinged curtains originate in the kitchen embodiment. After all, they are derived from many loved Provence style or village. Therefore, it is not surprising that even today such curtains are most often used to decorate the window opening in the kitchen. They look very cozy and homely, do not take up much space and are very functional: they make it easy to open and close the window. And for the kitchen room this is exactly what is needed - so that it is pleasant and facilitates the work process.
Models suitable for the kitchen differ in color and design. For example, someone prefer delicate shades and small unobtrusive design, while others, on the contrary, prefer the presence of bright accents and bright prints. Hinged curtains perfectly “withstand" both options. In addition, there are fans of the curtains to the window sill, and someone like long canvases, and again, the model allows you to bring both solutions to life.
For living room
Curtains for the living room are chosen with special care, because this is the place where guests are usually invited. Looped curtains - ideal for the hall. They look strictly and, at the same time, elegant and stylish. Functionality and conciseness. This design is appropriate to complement several windows side by side, and one small window.
To give an interesting look to familiar canvases, you can arrange the loops at a slightly greater distance than is assumed in the classic version of "curtain windows". Due to this trickery, the lower edge of the blade will hang like flounces, and unusual “scallops” are formed in the upper part. Such a curtain will effectively complement the dense curtain fabric.
For the bedroom
To create the perfect atmosphere of peace and quiet, hinged curtains are excellent options. First of all, because with their help you can easily adjust the degree of illumination of the room. And if you want to generally minimize the amount of sunlight. This will help special drape cloth.
Important! Portieres in the rest room should not sag. Therefore, a hard tape is sewn to the top of the curtain to fully fix the structure. This creates a beautiful uniform drape.
How to sew curtains with hinges
Externally, such models look unusually stylish, and not everyone will guess that they can be easily sewn with their own hands. Having basic sewing skills, and even being “on you” with a grandmother's sewing machine, you can create a creative “clothes” for the window in a couple of evenings.
In order for the curtains to decorate the interior and be “fit”, you should carefully measure. Determine the width of the future curtains. To do this, the length of the cornice must be multiplied by a certain factor. Its value depends on how much “deep” drapery you want to get as a result. Usually the coefficient is chosen in the range from 1.2 to 2.
The length of the curtains will depend, among other things, on the depth of drapery. Since the length of the loop for curtains with folds is 15 cm, and for smoother curtains - 10 cm.
Another important nuance: the distance between the loops should exceed their width.Compliance with this unspoken rule allows you to give a more interesting and complete look to the whole structure.
So, having finished with measurements, you can start sewing. To begin, transfer the calculations from paper to canvas. We note where there will be loops and stitch edges. Then go to the sewing of loops for curtains. If you are not looking for easy ways and it is extremely important for you that both the curtains and the loops are made of the same fabric, then have patience and work! First, we cut out from the fabric the necessary number of rectangular fragments, from which we will make loops. We fold the face inwards and stitch it, leaving about 5 - 7 mm along the edge, and one side to twist. Then turn the finished loops, gently straighten and iron.
You can attach the loops to the canvas in two ways: by the type of pocket, by hiding both edges of the loop inside the curtains, or along the top, by hiding the edges under the decorative ribbon.
Loops as an attachment can only be used on smooth eaves, because the canvas should slide freely.
Important! If you prefer a deaf loop, remember that you can remove the linen for washing, it will be possible only by completely disassembling the cornice. And if we are talking about curtains in the kitchen or in the nursery, which have to be washed more often than everyone else, this model is unlikely to be suitable. It is better to choose removable hinges.
If you are sewing the curtains yourself, the most affordable option is to use buttons or velcro. Sew one end of the loop to the canvas, sew a velcro on the same place. The second part of the adhesive tape is sewn to the other edge of the loop. The same principle can be used to make button loops or other decorative details.
Hinges or grommets: what to choose
And loops and grommets as an attachment today are very popular and modern. And, most likely, to make a choice in favor of one or another option is extremely difficult. Let's try to understand the advantages and disadvantages of these fashionable designs.
Hinges
Dignity. A great way to fasten to any fabric: from thick and textured linen to weightless tulle. Appropriate in the interior of any style, from classic to modern.
Disadvantages. When using deaf loops, in order to remove or hang the canvas, you have to disassemble the eaves. If the base of the eaves is slightly rough, it is difficult to evenly distribute the loops.
Grommets
Benefits. The rings are sewn into the curtain, and the canvas is attached either directly to the rings, or using additional hooks. Ideal for thick fabrics, it is appropriate to complement the retro style, grunge and classic. Spectacular in spacious living rooms.
Disadvantages. With noise they move along the eaves, can scratch it, they are not suitable for curtains and tulle.
In the end, it all depends on personal preference. For example, if uniform folds on a curtain are important to you and you don't care with what noise the web moves along the curtain rail, the grommets are exactly your option. And if you are looking for peace and privacy, and any noise is contraindicated to you, then your choice - loops, deaf or removable values does not matter.
It is obvious that textile loops are a great opportunity to make curtains in the kitchen, living room or bedroom comfortable and suitable for a common interior solution. The variety of colors allows you to choose the appropriate option. And if desired, such a model can be made independently.
