Velcro curtains, description, mounting features, design options
Velcro Velcro - as it is officially called - confirmed its effectiveness. With its help, you can install curtains without eaves on plastic and wooden windows. It is especially convenient to use them in small rooms where the eaves can look cumbersome, and a curtain, not closely adjacent to the wall, makes the room visually even smaller.
What is Velcro
This type of fastening is used quite widely: in the manufacture of garments, shoes, accessories and other goods. It consists of two ribbon elements: on one there are micro hooks, and on the other - the same small loops. When both tapes are in contact, the hooks cling to the loops, tightly sticking to each other.
Product Benefits
Convenience Velcro is that they can be strengthened on the windows and in the absence of a cornice, which saves space and money. Among other advantages note:
- long service life and preservation of technical characteristics;
- ease of installation and maintenance: they are easy to remove, wash, dry and iron.
- Velcro curtains can be used for any interior and styling directions.
How to install curtains on the window without drilling
Traditionally, to hang a curtain, you must first install the eaves, pre-drilled holes in the wall. Then mount holders for it and secure them securely.
However, many novice home masters are interested in how to attach the curtain to a plastic window, but avoid drilling. This can be done using the fastening options of velcro curtains. This method of fasteners can be used when installing:
- Roman curtains, including roller blinds;
- curtains, made in oriental style, in its broad sense;
- curtains and curtains on the loops, which are connected with the help of the Velcro.
Installation of curtains with stickies
Before proceeding to the design of the curtains with velcro, it is necessary to decide where to attach it: on the wall, plastic or wooden window, and then:
- cut a strip of fabric from 5 to 12 cm wide, depending on the purpose and density of the curtain;
- fold it in half and stretch all over the top edge of the face out, iron;
- sew the soft part of the Velcro (need tape without a sticky layer);
- bend the fabric along the seam and stitch as close as possible to the velcro.
After that, the front side of the fabric is covered with a strap, which also needs to be sewn.
The hard part of the fastener joins the cornice and glued.
Attention! If the curtain is lightweight and its installation is supposed to be on a plastic window, additional use of adhesive mass is not required.
How to hang a Roman blind without drilling
One of the most popular types of curtains for a long time remain the so-called Roman blinds. Today they are flat cloth fabrics, with which you can quickly and beautifully arrange the room. At the same time, one more advantage of these products is stylistic versatility: they fit perfectly into any interior.
Usually they are mounted on the eaves; for this, they drill holes where the fasteners are inserted and fix it. However, today, to hang a curtain of this type, it is not necessary to drill a wall - you can use Velcro adhesive tape.
For this, besides the fabric itself, you will need:
- Velcro (soft part);
- plastic or metal strips that will mimic a cornice;
- weighting bar, which is reinforced on the bottom of the product;
- even number of curtain rings.
Works are performed as described in the previous section. In addition, peculiar pockets are sewn from the inside, where the “cornice” is inserted from above, and weighting is below.
The cord is pulled through reinforced at the level of the pockets of the ring, and the entire structure is attached with the hard side of the velcro to the plastic or wooden base.
Additional Information. Weighting the bottom of the product allows you to keep the surface from the folds and creases.
How to hang on the window tulle with velcro
Without the difficulties and use of drilling tools, you can fasten a light muslin curtain or velcro on plastic or wooden cornice using this type of fastening.
Loggia or balcony: how to fix the velcro curtains
Today it is customary to use a balcony or loggia as the territory of a dwelling, which often turns into another improvised room. In addition to other methods of attachment, curtains can be installed for the loggia with adhesive tape.
However, their use requires compliance with additional conditions that will ensure the strength and reliability of fixing curtains.
Curtains on the balcony with velcro do-it-yourself have a certain complexity of installation, since the windows installed here reach the very top, and you can strengthen them with great difficulty. It is impossible to install a cornice, nail shutters are not aesthetically pleasing, and the use of stickies will be the most effective and aesthetic way.
An excellent option is to use Roman blinds. They have several advantages:
- do not interfere with the opening of windows;
- not fluttering from gusts of wind;
- do not require significant material costs;
- used in various colors.
Attention! Do not forget that the particular arrangement of balconies and loggias imply a significant movement of air, so heavy fabrics are inappropriate here.
The best choice for balcony curtains would be tulle, muslin, organza, silk, batis, curtain cloth.
The fabric can be strengthened with velcro on the bar, and then installed on the window frame and secured with fasteners.
Design options for balconies and loggias can be found on sites where color photos are posted.
Sucker for curtains, scope and installation
Another way to attach curtains is to use suction cups. Most often, they fix the curtains in the bathroom, shower, combined bathroom. It has its advantages:
- simplicity;
- cheapness;
- saving time;
- no need to drill the walls.
However, such products are not always encouraging: after short-term use, they lose their strength and fall along with the curtains.
When buying, you need to pay attention to the integrity and smoothness of the surface of the suction cup. If they are violated, the term of use will be short.
But even absolutely high-quality products will not hold tight if the wall has defects: potholes, cracks, remnants of the previous coating. It will be difficult to strengthen them on the relief surface of the tiles.
To secure them, you must use:
- degreasing agents;
- petrolatum and vaseline based drugs;
- lining of self-adhesive PVC film;
- silicone sealant.
