Product Features
Cornice for Roman curtains received great popularity relatively recently. Bored with the standard curtains that decorated Soviet apartments are already out of fashion. It was necessary to somehow diversify the design of curtains for the Russian consumer. Meeting this need, designers have developed a modern concept of Roman curtains, based on the experience of past years. So gained popularity, and enjoy it to this day, these beautiful curtain products.
Visiting the textile store, you can find these types of cornices for Roman curtains:
- Mini eaves.
- Suspension standard size.
- The bevelled construction of the main crossbar.
- Double row curtain.
The design of each of these 4 types is the same. Roman curtains have a characteristic folding method, which is carried out in only one way: by tightening the lower edge of the curtain. To make this possible, the curtain has four main working elements. It:
- profile, which is mounted on the fixed part;
- plumb (place of attachment of curtains to the profile);
- lifting mechanism;
- pulling ropes.
The profile of the suspension can be made of plastic or aluminum. In some cases, it is made of wood. But It is worth noting that wood is present only in the outer, decorative layer. Inside the system is made of plastic or aluminum. The choice of material manufacturing profile depends on several indicators. This is the dimensions of the curtain itself, as well as the material of its manufacture. The more weight, the stronger should be the eaves.
The plummet is usually made in the form of velcro tape glued to the profile. On expensive products, Velcro tape replacement is provided, as over time, with frequent washings of curtains, Velcro fails. There are also plumbs on the strings.They are less popular, they are harder to install and remove, but, unlike the velcro, there is nothing to become useless.
The curtain lifting mechanism is a system of two lifting carriages and one rotational drive interconnected by a square cross section. The carriages are driven by a manual control chain. To move the curtain to the upper position, its edges are securely fastened to the pulling tapes (cords) at the ends of which there are retaining rings or hooks.
Types of lifting systems
Different manufacturers produce different types of components for the Roman curtains. By appointment, they are no different, but there are differences in their aesthetic qualities.
There are two types of lifting systems:
- open type;
- closed type.
By the name of each, it becomes clear that open systems have carriages that are rendered separately from the main body (profile). But the closed type implies the functioning of the entire system when the lifting carriages and the rotational drive are enclosed in the product case. The movement of the curtain itself, both in the first and in the second case, occurs in a similar way: the user moves the control work chain, which drives the square pull. In this case, cord cables are wound on the drive shaft of the traction carriage, lifting the curtain up.
In addition to the manual way of opening / closing the window, there is an automatic one. For the operation of this system, an electric drive with a remote control sensor is additionally located in the profile housing. The system is connected to the apartment network 220 volts. The motor of the lifting system itself is powered by a voltage of 24 volts, therefore, the design is supplied with a step-down voltage transformer.
The management of such a system takes place with the help of a remote control. The feasibility of this system is justified in the case of overall, long Roman curtains. Eaves of such products have the aluminum case, and also three and more lifting cables.
Double row cornices
Double-row cornices for Roman curtains - a new trend, which received a move just a couple of years ago. The design of this cornice is very similar to the single row type. But the differences are still there. To fasten the second curtain, another Velcro is used, located on the back wall of the profile body. For raising / lowering both curtains use one working body - the same chain of manual control. And so that there is a possibility of separate regulation of each curtain, the control system is equipped with stop plugs.
Two-row cornice called day / night. Such a “nickname” he received for the possibility of fixing two curtains. One, closest to the window, is hung from a translucent tulle, and the second serves as a curtain, so it must be from a dense canvas.
Double-row Roman cornices are very practical. They do not take up additional space; on the contrary, if there is a gap between tulle and a curtain of 3 cm, they save a lot of space.Such products are attached exclusively to the wall or ceiling. Installation on a window or window opening is not allowed, due to their considerable weight.
Installing roman blinds
In order to hang a curtain rod for Roman curtains on the ceiling, you need to have some tools. Here is what you need:
- Impact drill or hammer drill.
- Screwdriver or ordinary screwdriver.
- Dowel-nails.
- Roulette, pencil and ruler.
First you need to make a markup. Attachment points are indicated directly on the eaves. In the profile, on its inside there should be holes. Having attached the eaves to the ceiling at the same distance at the edges, you need to draw out the points for drilling with a pencil. Next, with a drill, you need to drill holes, insert dowels (or metal anchors) into them, and fix the crossbar.
That's all the "difficulties" installation ends. You will only have to hang the curtains yourself, put in cord cables, and enjoy the use of beautiful Roman curtains.
