Description and types of cringles: metal, for leather

Grommets - what is it? This metal fittings in the form of rings for fabric. The element itself consists of a block and a ring. Such a mount was invented back in the middle of the 20th century, and it was originally intended for securing sails on ships. However, over time, metal fittings began to be widely used when sewing women's clothing, shoes, bags. A special place was occupied by the grommets in the field of interior design, namely, when making windows with products with a diameter of 40 mm made in Taiwan.

The curtains on the grommet can be chosen for any interior style.

What are the types

At the planning stage of window decoration, you need to understand and understand what eyelets are, what types they are. By itself, metal fittings can be of different shapes and sizes. Distinguish plugs based on the following parameters:

  1. The size. The diameter of the rings starts from 4-5 mm, they are called "Piccolo Rings", they are widely used in printing. The maximum diameter is 8 cm. Small ones are used to create clothes, shoes and bags. Large is used for advertising banners. For curtains usually choose rings with a diameter of not more than 7 cm.

    The thickness of the fabric on which the product can be installed depends on the height of the eyelet rim.

  2. The form. As a rule, previously used round medium diameter for hanging curtains, but today you can find different forms: oval, square, triangular. Often for children's rooms they make sleeves in the form of animals, and in shower rooms for curtains - fish or handwheels.

    Regardless of the shape of the grommet for curtains, the hole in it is always round

  3. The material from which the grommets are made. It can be metal, plastic, wooden bushings. Metals are chrome, matte and glossy made from different alloys and metals, such as 1711 grommets made of nickel.

    Such dyuversa are well combined with the chrome pipe of the cornice.

  4. Colour. There are many colors of sleeves, it can be both simple black and multi-colored inserts. Products that mimic other materials, such as stone, wood, glass. Initially, you need to decide on the color of forofis.

    The color of the rings should be in harmony with the color and texture of the eaves

Please note that the choice of shape of products, colors and textures is determined by the color range, type and purpose of the selected curtains. The style of the interior design of the room also matters, for example, foroffice and grommets for the house are different things.

One way or another, the fittings must be in harmony with the color of curtains or walls in the room. Depending on the original design decision, the sleeves can either match the color and style of the chosen fabric to the maximum, or, on the contrary, successfully contrast with them.

Benefits

Among other ways of fastening the curtain fabric to the eaves, the use of metal rings is considered the most reliable, despite the fact that individual elements can be bought at retail. The cringle decorates the curtains. What is it you can see in the photo.

For mounting on grommets suitable for any type of fabric

Product advantages:

  • the curtain slides silently and smoothly along the eaves;
  • the curtain is protected from sagging and mechanical damage;
  • You can create aesthetic, smooth, decorative folds on the curtains;
  • curtain can be quickly removed and re-hung;
  • washing the curtain fabric creates no problems.

The undoubted advantage is the quick installation of products, including at home.

Curtains on the rings are easy to move and they do not catch on.

Eyelets for “soft windows”

Soft windows are number 1 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) curtains, they function as windows on summer terraces and verandas, and, in fact, are an alternative to ordinary windows. Accessories for such windows should be beautiful and allow you to securely fasten the structure.

“Soft” PVC windows are ideal for protecting the space of a summer terrace from wind and rain

For canvas windows were invented these types of fasteners:

  • eyelets with prym mounting brackets;
  • belts - clamps, rectangular;
  • magnetic clasps;
  • rollers for assembly of a cloth in a roll;
  • metal guide blocks, swivel brackets.

The advantage of installing on the soft window fasteners under the screw in the upper part of the curtain is that, if necessary, the curtain is rolled up by the roll and fixed with straps.

Grommet

This tape consists of a thermoglue material with a width of 2-3 cm more from the diameter of the rings. Braid can be of different textures - for light curtains invented a special transparent tape.

The cringling tape is a strip of dense material. It serves to strengthen the upper edge of the curtain before installing the grommets, maybe with a sticky layer

Important! Duct tape is optional. Before buying strips, make sure that the design idea is impossible without this strip itself. Sometimes the seal with additional linings spoils the appearance.

In which cases is used:

  • Textured strip is used to seal the fabric in the upper part of the curtain. This is especially true when creating grabs at home.
  • It is easier to apply appliqués and decorative elements to curtains lined with hot-melt tape.
  • Especially often these strips are used to give neatness to the edges of the "Roman curtains".

No grommet can not do if the fabric is very thin

How to glue the tape yourself

First, let's look at what types of braid are found on the market.

  1. Single Layer. Glue in the form of a strip is applied on one side of the curtain. Under the influence of the iron, the adhesive mass melts and sticks to the fabric.
  2. Double Layer. Fixed much safer than the first due to the fact that the adhesive mass is applied on both sides of the webbing. To protect the iron, the side of the adhesive strip for iron processing is protected by a special heat-resistant mesh.

Folds with eyelet tape look smoother and neater

The width of the tape is selected based on the diameter of the grommet, which should be 2 cm less

In order to glue one-sided tape to the curtains, follow this algorithm:

  1. At the top of the curtain measure two tape widths. Fold the canvas so that the two purl sides touch each other. Then iron the iron.

    On the curtain you will get such an ironed band.

  2. At the edge of the fold, attach the reinforcement tape with the adhesive side down. Start ironing. It is necessary to iron very carefully, not allowing shifts of the strip.

    The fold should completely overlap the tape

  3. Wait until the treated area has completely cooled.
  4. Remove excess tape sticking out items.
  5. Stitch a few inches above the bottom edge of the braid on the sewing machine. This is necessary for additional fixation of the strip.

How to install yourself

If desired, the products can be installed independently. For this, a hole is punched into the fabric. Next, from the wrong side of the canvas, an insert is inserted into the hole, and a washer is inserted from the front, after which the design of the eyelet is fixed (just press on the washer, then the sleeve until it clicks a little). If double-sided curtains are selected, the sides of the sleeve and the washers are irrelevant.

For home curtains, it is convenient to use plastic eyelets, the halves of which are joined by a simple snap-in and do not require special tools for installation.

In order to ensure the smooth movement of the curtain along the eaves, experts advise when choosing accessories to give preference to products whose inner diameter is 1.5 cm larger than the diameter of the eaves rod.

In addition to prepared, well-ironed curtains and fittings, you will need:

  • measuring tape;
  • needle, thread;
  • hole punch;
  • scissors;
  • a pencil for drawing tags on the fabric.

The formula for calculating the number of holes

Before starting to work, determine the model of curtains and the required number of sleeves.

The calculation of the holes is one of the examples, proving that school lessons in mathematics can be useful for solving everyday problems. So to calculate the number of sleeves for curtains (x) there is a special formula:

x = (a - 2s): 18 + 1, where:

  • and - the width of the curtains;
  • c is the distance from the edge of the curtain to the center of the rings located at the edge of the web.

With an even number of grommets, the edges of the curtains will be directed in one direction, for odd - in different directions

If, as a result of the calculations, an odd number is obtained, it is rounded up to an even number. Having defined the required number of fittings, you can begin to work.

How to determine the distance

The distance between the holes in the fabric depends largely on its type and quality. Most often it ranges from 15 to 22 cm.

If we are talking about light flowing fabric - the holes should be located at a distance of no more than 15 cm, for heavy dense curtains - no less than 20-22 cm. When double-sided, dense fabric for curtains is chosen, a step of 18 cm would be the best option.

Layout of eyelets on the curtain

At installation of lateral rings other rule operates. They should not be located at the very edge of the curtains, but at the same time they will look bad at a considerable distance from it. Therefore, the optimal step will be 2-6 cm.

Action algorithm

  1. Apply the markup on the canvas, marking the places for punching holes with a pencil.

    Calculate the required number of holes

  2. Strengthen curtains top with tape.

    Outline the contours of the inner holes of the grommets.

  3. Punch holes in accordance with the markings and install the product.

    Gently cut the fabric with sharp scissors.

  4. Carefully clean the inside of the excess thread.

    Attach the ring grommets on the back side of the curtains

Then it remains only to fasten the curtains on the eaves, and correctly form the folds on the curtains.
