How to make the backlight curtains LED strip
A well-designed interior is one that combines comfort and functionality, but at the same time has a beautiful appearance. For example, modern lamps not only provide light and energy, but often become decorative elements, giving a completely unusual look to ordinary things. All kinds of lighting today can be directed to the functional decoration of curtains, one of the popular options is a night light on curtains.

Option for your taste
Ways to “highlight” the curtains and make the original night light, indeed, not enough. Among the most popular:
- Garlands,
- LED curtains
- backlight built into the eaves,
- the curtains, which themselves are LED “waves” (they are also called “waterfalls”).
But first things first.
Types of garlands
With the scarcity of choice in this matter, you definitely will not come across, the varieties of garlands and light designs, with the help of which the illumination of curtains can be embodied, are very, very much. We list some of them.
- universal linear festoon (lamps arranged in series on a long wire)
- garland curtain (long wires not connected to each other)
- garland-fringe (branching of different lengths from the main wire)
- net (looks almost like a fishing net, just also with small lamps)
- duralight (flexible cord with LEDs, especially suitable if you need to give a light picture of a certain shape)
Garland for curtains
How much the garland will flood the area of the curtains is up to you. Someone prefers that the curtains are highlighted in their entirety, and look like brightly lit curtains, someone has just a couple of single garlands, and someone is creative, laying out the light pattern on the curtains.
What to mount?
The way of fastening the garland to curtains depends on its weight and your idea.
- If the garland is not very large and light in weight, then you can attach it tritely - on double-sided tape. In this case, if you decide to make the window a base, then first wipe the right place with alcohol. You can install the backlight on the curtain itself, both in front and behind the window.
- A more reliable option is fixing with a hot glue gun.
- If the mount is a cornice, hooks for tulle or thread can be used.
- Mount on a wooden window frame? Hammer in it is not until the end of a small pink.
- If you want the curtain to be illuminated, you can attach directly to it.
Connection
By types of connection, too, there are differences. If there is a free socket near the window, choose a garland that is powered by electricity. If there is none, it is better to choose a garland on batteries. Last, by the way, it is better to stock up in advance so as not to remain without a magical mood at the most inopportune moment.
LED Strip Light
LED curtain backlighting creates a different visual effect. If the garland fills the area of the curtains, then the ribbon fills the space at the eaves, spreading its light with a gradient: bright at the top and everything is calmer to the bottom.
Types of tape
There are several models of LED strips. They differ in the types of LEDs and the frequency of their installation. Do not choose a tape with too high light intensity, it will blind the eyes and “eat up” an unreasonably lot of electricity.
For ceiling lighting, experts recommend embedding SMD 5050 ribbon (from 30 LEDs in warm white light per meter).
Mood color
The advantage of LED strips is that they can emit light of any color, you can choose the right mood. Warm home get-togethers? - Use soft white or yellow color. A small party? The atmosphere will create a neon blue or purple.
LED curtains "Waterfall"
LED festoon, creating the effect of "falling" waves due to the overflow of light from top to bottom. Each wire looks like a separate stream of water.
Installation Materials
To make installation as less troublesome as possible, stock up with everything you need in advance. Do not forget about the measurements, you need to know the width of your window before you go to the store.
- Transformer. It is necessary for the LED device to function. The fact is that the LEDs will not be able to work if the standard network values are set. In our case, less voltage and current of another quality is required: voltage input - 220V with a frequency of 50 G, output - 12 V and direct current.
- The waterfall itself. The length of the waterfall should coincide with the length of the distance that you want to illuminate, and the values should match the parameters of the transformer.
- The wire. We also remember timely measurements. The cross-section of the wire suitable to the transformer should be at least 1.5 mm2, from the connection to the tape - 0.75 - 1 mm2. The wire must have 2 colored wires.
- Single pole switch (standard) and RCD (for additional security).
- Plastic boxes for wires. This item and the following for those who wish to hide the place of attachment and installs a waterfall under the ceiling.
- Drywall From it you can make a niche in which unnecessary wires will be hidden.
- Shrink tubing or insulating tape.
Proceed to installation
Naturally, you need to start work with a power outage, otherwise the consequences may not be the most favorable. Well, and to do everything right, stick to a certain sequence.
- As close as possible to the curtains to install a box of drywall. If you need it, of course. If you are installing a backlight under a suspended ceiling, this item can be safely skipped.
- Fasten the transformer. It’s better to install it where the LED waterfall will go. You can mount directly to the ceiling using standard dowels.
- set the transformer - we bring the voltage. Here comes the nearest outlet or junction box. Connection diagram: the wire with the red color of the insulation is connected to the phase, the wire with the blue insulation - to zero. To determine the phase and zero, use the indicator screwdriver.
- Now you can start to attach our LED garland. To do this, you can use construction glue (for more details on the methods of attachment, they wrote at the beginning of the article). The place where you will mount the waterfall, you need to clean up debris and dust.
- And finally, we connect our waterfall curtain through a transformer. There are 2 leads on the transformer: V + and V- from them to the corresponding leads on the festoon lead the wire with a section of 1.5 mm2.
- Well, to control all this beauty, set the switch. Make sure that it is not set to zero, only to the phase.
Illuminated cornices
Another spectacular and at the same time practical lighting option is the ledge lighting. In the previous part, we considered the option of fastening the waterfall curtain, including under the eaves, you can also fix other lighting options on it.
You can highlight any cornice:
- ceiling,
- wall and ceiling,
- wall.
It is better to choose those models in which the part glued to the wall will be much wider than the ceiling part. That is, classic and decorative plinths do not fit, it is better to choose a wide molding. But even in this case there are some nuances: make sure that the upper part of the molding is not located horizontally and is not beveled down from the wall, otherwise it will eat the light.
The choice of lighting for the eaves illumination
Traditional lamps immediately and absolutely do not fit. They can direct the light rather powerful beam, and therefore falls unevenly. It is better to use LED strip or various types of garlands with LED lamps. It doesn’t heat up as much and is more economical.
Installing the ledge eaves
- Glue the eaves to the prepared wall.
- Install the eaves need at a distance of 5-10 cm from the ceiling.
- Glue the corners of baguettes together (angle to corner).
- Glue the LED tape to the wall or install lamps. Or we “invest” in the indoor space.
- The power supply unit is fixed next to the wall or below. It is better to place where access to it will be as convenient as possible, in the place where the hand reaches.
- Done!
Once again about the main thing
In order for the light decoration to really delight you not only with beautiful effects, but also with ease of use and operational safety, be sure to think over all the details before you go to the store and begin installation and installation.
