In order to fold the canvas in half and symmetrically connect the edges, you need a solid, flat surface. Our apartments are not equipped with industrial tables for cutting tulle and nylon fabrics, so you have to use the material at hand. In this case, you can use the floor of the apartment. You may need the help of another person.
How to shorten the tulle? We recommend several ways to cut the fabric.
Lay the fabric on the floor. Mark the desired length by placing marks at a certain distance from each other with a pencil or piece of chalk. We make a small cut on the fabric, we hook the thread from the edge and pull it along the entire length of the canvas. Observe the formation of a strip along the length of the fabric. On the strip we make an incision. You can use a clerical knife or ordinary scissors, but they should be sharp enough.
Please note, when cutting, the tape of fabric laid out on the floor should not slide. To reduce slipping, you can put a cotton base under the canvas or fix it with masking tape.
A simple technique is used for processing the tulle fabric: in the right place a thin thread of fabric is gently hooked and pulled.
After that, according to the resulting "track", the matter is carefully cut with scissors.
This method of bending is considered the easiest and most reliable.
We fold the canvas in half, carefully combining the edges. We make a small incision in the place where the edges diverge. Then again, very carefully fold the material in half. Often the lower cut is treated with an oblique bake - this is the edging of the lower cut with a special tape.
Slice the curtains laid on the slanting inlay, which is then bent. The raw seam remains inside the finishing tape, which we put under the foot of the sewing machine. The line runs along the edges of the tape. The tape can be purchased at the store or made independently of the available material.
To straighten the tape is best with a special foot or snail foot.
Weights are used to shape the lightweight material. They are produced in the form of cords or plates. They give the air product a complete look, set its shape.
If the fabric is equipped with a weighting agent, it is difficult to adjust the length.
There are two options for solving the issue: trim the material on top or rearrange the weighting agent. Basically, the housewives choose the first option, because it is difficult to rearrange the weighting agent, or rather, it is difficult to produce a seam with which the weighting agent is sewn. Not every housewife can repeat this stitch.
What to do if the material is wide and you need to remove some of the width? It will be necessary to shorten the weighting agent. We move the overlap, exposing part of the tip of the weighting agent, cut off the excess part. After the manipulations we shift the overlay to the previous place. If the pattern on the fabric allows, intervention is carried out only on the one hand, otherwise similar actions must be repeated on the other side of the material.
If the tulle has a special weighting agent at the bottom or a decorative treatment that you want to keep, then hem the curtain only on the sides.
Adjust the length of the curtains on top.
The material requires a certain approach and utmost accuracy. Can be processed at home, if you follow certain recommendations. Before you hem the tulle, you need to mark it on a flat, non-slip surface. This may be a floor covered with cotton. If necessary, you can additionally use masking tape.
The fine-pattern tulle can be cut off in a very simple way. Before you cut the tulle, measure the length you need at the lateral end, make a mark. Then take a sharp scissors, make a small incision on the side of the tulle, on the marked mark, and, slightly applying pressure, “slip” the scissors to the opposite edge of the material.
In this way, a perfectly even cut is obtained.
How to sew tulle? Begin filing from the sides of the material. This should be done through the usual closed seam. The width of the seam should be from two to three centimeters. It depends on the thickness of the material, the thicker the material, the wider the seam. How to process the edges of the tulle? Apply the ends of the fabric with an iron before stitching. After thermal treatment, it will be easier to stitch.
Try not to stretch the fabric during ironing, otherwise the product will lose its shape.
Usually, the fabric on the side seams is fixed with pins before sewing. When stitching, we advise you to set the average stitch length. The line in this case will move much faster. The tension of the thread must be slightly relaxed, this will allow to correctly stitch the product and avoid its tightening.
If the line is looping or skipping stitches, before sewing the tulle at home, try using a knitting needle or stitching a seam with a zigzag.
After processing the side seams, proceed to processing the bottom edge of the product. First you need to press down the bottom seam with turning inside out. Then use the same technology that was used when processing the side edges of the product.
