How to hem the tulle with your own hands
Homeland tulle is France. The material is named after the city in which it was invented and first used. "Penetrating" into our homes, he firmly entrenched there. At present, it is impossible to imagine home decor without tulle. We have a great success in tulle caprone.
Successfully selected tulle - one of the most important decorations of your kitchen, living room, bedroom or corridor. It is quite light. At the first stage of choosing tulle to your house, we pay attention to the color, pattern, quality of the material.
Tulle is a light, transparent material. It can be made from natural fabrics, synthetic, or be a mixture of different fibers. It can be cotton, flax, silk and other materials.
You have chosen a material, now it is necessary to bring it into view of the finished product
It is necessary to determine the length and width of the curtains.
Consider the following options for arranging tulle.
- Length to the window sill.
It is desirable to give such length to products in nurseries. It is convenient and solves some problems. For example, a very small child, crawling on the floor, will not be confused in the product.
- The height of the tulle to the floor.
This is a classic version. The length of the product reaches the floor. Tulle completely hides the wall and does not open the plinth.
- Standard tulle height.
The most common type of product. Mounted on top, the lower part above the floor by two or four centimeters. This option is very functional. When driving, contact with the floor is excluded. The product is less susceptible to pollution. It is not subject to friction on the floor, which increases its service life.
- Fringed tulle.
Very beautiful option. The waves of tulle lie on the floor, completely covering the bottom of the wall and baseboard. The waves are laid on the floor by hand. The length of overlap is fifteen or twenty centimeters.
Please note that this product will look great in spacious rooms with high ceilings. And it is categorically not suitable for arranging small rooms with a low ceiling. The product visually reduces the size of the room.
When modeling and tailoring products do not forget about the standards of filling in width. The finished product should look beautiful, rich.
The best filling is 1: 2. The product will look good. This option is perfect for material with a large pattern. Please note, with less filling your tulle will look more than modest.
The most optimal content is 1: 3 ratio. The product will look rich. In this case, the basis is necessary to take tulle with a small pattern from below or without it.

How to cut a tulle with your own hands
Attention! Before cutting off the tulle, read the instructions below.
When sewing products made of tulle, it is very difficult to trim the edge of the product evenly. The reason is that tulle is a thin and delicate fabric. The canvas constantly slides, any inaccurate movement leads to the formation of puffs and small holes on the surface.
In order to fold the canvas in half and symmetrically connect the edges, you need a solid, flat surface. Our apartments are not equipped with industrial tables for cutting tulle and nylon fabrics, so you have to use the material at hand. In this case, you can use the floor of the apartment. You may need the help of another person.
How to shorten the tulle? We recommend several ways to cut the fabric.
- Pull the cross thread.
Lay the fabric on the floor. Mark the desired length by placing marks at a certain distance from each other with a pencil or piece of chalk. We make a small cut on the fabric, we hook the thread from the edge and pull it along the entire length of the canvas. Observe the formation of a strip along the length of the fabric. On the strip we make an incision. You can use a clerical knife or ordinary scissors, but they should be sharp enough.
Please note, when cutting, the tape of fabric laid out on the floor should not slide. To reduce slipping, you can put a cotton base under the canvas or fix it with masking tape.
This method of bending is considered the easiest and most reliable.
- Making cuts on the material
We fold the canvas in half, carefully combining the edges. We make a small incision in the place where the edges diverge. Then again, very carefully fold the material in half. The fabric must be constantly smoothed to avoid fractures and irregularities. Again we make an incision where the previous marks are already traced. Note that the cuts should be symmetrical. Then, ensuring that the fabric does not move, we expand it back.
After all the manipulations we get the folded fabric in half. Take a ruler or a similar straight long object and connect the marks to each other, drawing strokes using a piece of chalk or a pencil.
We brought you the easiest ways to cut the fabric. Try to act consistently, adhering to these instructions, so as not to spoil the fabric.
How to sew tulle? Description of methods
Hemming tulle at home is not difficult. You need a little patience, accuracy and have in the house a simple set of tools: threads, needles, scissors.
We draw attention to the need for tulle thin thread, size number 40 and less. The color of the thread and fabric should blend. Remember, you first need to handle the sides of the canvas, then proceed to the bottom edge.
The lower part of the web is processed in several ways.
The easiest way is double hemming. We treated the side seams with the same method, but in this case its width is more significant, at least two centimeters.
The bottom of the canvas is often treated with Moscow stitch. The edge of the canvas tuck one centimeter, ironed. We carry out a line at a distance of two or three millimeters from the edge of the hem. Excess fabric to be cut. Again, tuck the material, ironed out and stitched, you should try to put a line exactly on the first seam.
This method allows you to save the amount of material in the backyard.
Often the lower cut is treated with an oblique bake - this is the edging of the lower cut with a special tape.
Slice the curtains laid on the slanting inlay, which is then bent. The raw seam remains inside the finishing tape, which we put under the foot of the sewing machine. The line runs along the edges of the tape. The tape can be purchased at the store or made independently of the available material.
Tulle with weighting agent, stitching and processing methods
Weights are used to shape the lightweight material. They are produced in the form of cords or plates. They give the air product a complete look, set its shape.
If the fabric is equipped with a weighting agent, it is difficult to adjust the length.
There are two options for solving the issue: trim the material on top or rearrange the weighting agent. Basically, the housewives choose the first option, because it is difficult to rearrange the weighting agent, or rather, it is difficult to produce a seam with which the weighting agent is sewn. Not every housewife can repeat this stitch.
What to do if the material is wide and you need to remove some of the width? It will be necessary to shorten the weighting agent. We move the overlap, exposing part of the tip of the weighting agent, cut off the excess part. After the manipulations we shift the overlay to the previous place. If the pattern on the fabric allows, intervention is carried out only on the one hand, otherwise similar actions must be repeated on the other side of the material.
Tulle mesh: how to cut and hem fabric
The material requires a certain approach and utmost accuracy. Can be processed at home, if you follow certain recommendations. Before you hem the tulle, you need to mark it on a flat, non-slip surface. This may be a floor covered with cotton. If necessary, you can additionally use masking tape.
The fine-pattern tulle can be cut off in a very simple way. Before you cut the tulle, measure the length you need at the lateral end, make a mark. Then take a sharp scissors, make a small incision on the side of the tulle, on the marked mark, and, slightly applying pressure, “slip” the scissors to the opposite edge of the material.
How to sew tulle? Begin filing from the sides of the material. This should be done through the usual closed seam. The width of the seam should be from two to three centimeters. It depends on the thickness of the material, the thicker the material, the wider the seam. How to process the edges of the tulle? Apply the ends of the fabric with an iron before stitching. After thermal treatment, it will be easier to stitch.
Usually, the fabric on the side seams is fixed with pins before sewing. When stitching, we advise you to set the average stitch length. The line in this case will move much faster. The tension of the thread must be slightly relaxed, this will allow to correctly stitch the product and avoid its tightening.
If the line is looping or skipping stitches, before sewing the tulle at home, try using a knitting needle or stitching a seam with a zigzag.
After processing the side seams, proceed to processing the bottom edge of the product. First you need to press down the bottom seam with turning inside out. Then use the same technology that was used when processing the side edges of the product.
Tulle mesh can be processed Moscow seam observing the following technology. Necessary in the store to buy non-woven tape. The width of the tape is not important; a ribbon of any width will do. Ironing it on the wrong side of the material, then perform the usual Moscow seam. Make a line of two millimeters along the edge, grabbing the tape, after cutting off the allowance with a part of the tape. In the seam remains about two millimeters, this is enough for the production of the seam.
How to hem the tulle with your hands, without a typewriter? Recommendations to housewives
All the above designated methods of sewing curtains are suitable for manual processing, without the use of a sewing machine. But this occupation is costly for the labor and time spent. For housewives who do not have in their household special materials - threads, needles, sewing machines - we offer a method of stitching with adhesive tape.
It's simple, the excess fabric is laid between the layers of tape and ironed iron.
When using adhesive tape for the first time, we advise you to first experiment on a small piece of cloth and only then proceed to work on the main material.
In addition to adhesive tape, special clamps are used to regulate the length of finished products. Giving the desired curtain length with clamps is not an easy task. Symmetric result will not work immediately.
For hemming, stick to our recommendations, and your house will be decorated with wonderful products sewn by your hands.
