- According to the form. For children, various forms of bedding play a big role. Stylized as the heroes of Disney cartoons, various animals, neck pillows are used successfully.
What has proven pillow products? There are several answers at once:
- the convenience of use;
- compact travel;
- practicality;
- prophylactic and therapeutic properties.
Taking such a horseshoe pillow with you on a long trip, you can happily spend all the time traveling: from pleasant fees to vacation, and ending with a long way home.
For people of mental labor, who spend their entire day at the desk, and in the evening do not disdain to read fiction in the homely atmosphere, an orthopedic pillow for the neck is the only salvation from the impending osteochondrosis of the cervical spine.
But what forms of products are sold in specialized stores.
- Classic rectangular (square) shape.
- Form roller or bone.
- Cervical collar (horseshoe mentioned above).
- In the form of a car seat belt (manufacturer's “TravelRest”).
- In a form resembling the Russian letter "G" (the manufacturer: "J Pillow").
Each type of form is used in different situations. The cost of each individual species is largely dependent on the material of manufacture of the filler, which will be discussed in detail in the next section.
What filler is used for pillows?
To meet every need, as well as adjust to the physiology of each person, neck pillow manufacturers produced with natural fillers and synthetics.
The well-known goose down and feather have long receded into the background, thanks to the use of modern synthetic substitutes. In all key parameters, such fillers are many times greater than Soviet pads.
Synthetic fillings include:
- comfort;
- polystyrene foam;
- synthetic winterizer;
- holofiber;
- gel base;
- polyurethane foam.
Comforel, as well as holofiber, are used to prevent the cervical spine of young children. Due to the hypoallergenicity of the aggregate and the absence of contraindications for use for newborns, this bedding has gained great popularity.
According to similar characteristics, a synthetic winterizer is used as a filler for children's pads. It does not cause allergic reactions, and also as a comfort and holofiber, perfectly tolerates washing.
Expanded polystyrene is an elastic filler suitable for orthopedic appointments. The high degree of preservation of the original form allowed to maximize the therapeutic effect on humans. Expanded polystyrene is made into an anti-stress pillow, which is filled with small balls that provide a massage effect for the neck.
A novelty among orthopedic accessories for the cervical spine is helium-filled pads. This material is somewhat denser than water, so it is ideal for therapeutic agents. An additional advantage is its low thermal conductivity, and as a result, you get cool in the summer. But such a filler inevitably affects the price.
Polyurethane foam has a soft structure. This affects the further behavior: the product receives anatomical memory, since the return to its original form occurs at a low speed. Polyurethane foam does not absorb water and odors, so do not need to wash here. For orthopedic purposes, such a filler is a great find.
Often for tourist purposes there are air pillows for the neck. The top of the accessory is made of synthetic. Inside there is a cavity that is filled with air. This type is convenient to use for flights, since you are relatively short time in the air, and there is not too much extra space in the bag.
Natural aggregates
The made orthopedic pillow from a natural filler - the accessory is much more interesting, than synthetics.This can be explained as follows: natural, natural ingredients are diverse in their own way:
- structure;
- origin;
- effective and healing properties.
But what kind of filler is used for various orthopedic pastel accessories made from natural fibers.
- Cotton and silk.
- Bamboo cane and seaweed.
- Horsehair and animal hair (sheep in particular).
- Latex base.
- Natural herbs.
Each placeholder has its own unique and interesting properties. This list is able to satisfy the most unusual human whims. For example, pre-dried forest herbs have an excellent healing effect due to the emitted extracts. And buckwheat husk copes with massage tasks. Of course, the service life of such a “medicine” is limited, because it cannot be washed. But the joy of use will be too high.
Of all the listed fillers, only latex and, to a lesser extent, bamboo fiber will be suitable for an elastic orthopedic pad.
Latex base is obtained by processing the juice of plants. Therefore, this component is environmentally friendly and safe. In addition, due to heat treatment during production, the consistency is completely disinfected. The result is a hypoallergenic material that is resistant to external moisture.
The advantages of latex, compared with other natural additives are:
- ease of care (washable in a washing machine);
- elastic base, ideal for orthopedic purposes;
- anatomical memory;
- durability.
The remaining aggregates (animal hair, horsehair, buckwheat, etc.) are used in certain cases when a certain therapeutic effect is required.
How to choose a pillow?
Having come to the store of pastel textiles, you can not immediately buy the first model. If we are talking about orthopedic accessories, be sure to consider the following parameters:
- individual physiological features;
- the distance from the shoulders to the head;
- the purpose of the accessory;
- estimated time of use.
The most important indicator is the appointment. For example, a pillow-roller, or a standard orthopedic product, is ideal for everyday sleep. These two types promote good sleep on:
- side;
- back;
- the stomach.
But the horseshoe is only suitable for sleeping on the back, as well as for long journeys. Some models come with an extra pocket for a portable player. And the presence of straps allows you to fix the size of the accessory for each person.
Each person has individual parameters, so the thickness of the manufactured pads of one model has several variations. The standard figure is 10 centimeters. By the individual order it is possible to pick up practically any sizes.
Making a pillow with your own hands
To make an orthopedic pillow with your own hands, you will need:
- two pieces of cotton or fleece fabric (or synthetics), measuring 50 * 50 centimeters;
- strings, needles, pins and thimbles;
- material for filling (old scraps of fabrics, grass, buckwheat, etc.);
- scissors, cardboard or paper;
- pencil.
With the help of cardboard and pencil it is necessary to make patterns (stencil). After applying the form on a sheet of cardboard, scissors make cuts.Further, according to these patterns, pieces of fabric are cut with a margin (allowance) for sewing.
After cutting the fabric, the resulting parts are stacked on top of each other and sewn together. On the one hand, it is necessary to leave an unblown edge of 5-7 centimeters. After stitching, the shell must be turned to the front.
As you may have guessed, a filler is inserted into the remaining non-cross-linked gap, after which the product is completely sutured.
Make your own baby pillow yourself. Use colored fabrics and threads, as well as decorative items. Your child will be satisfied.
