Fastening for shelves in the closet. What are they and why are they needed?
The main part of each cabinet is shelves, thanks to them compact storage of various items is organized. Long and high-quality life directly depends on the reliability and correctness of mounting shelves.
Fasten hinged shelves in the closet will not be difficult, it is only necessary, observing horizontal levels, make the markup. Otherwise, the weight will be unevenly distributed over the surface of the shelf, and the load on one mount will be much greater than on the other. In the future, it will break, and the shelf will fall, there is a chance that the cabinet wall will eventually be badly damaged.

Varieties of fastenings of shelves of a case
The simplest option is self-tapping screws. They come with concealed hats and press washers.
Screws have a two-digit marking: the first number indicates the diameter of the thread, the second - the total length. The higher the values of these parameters, the stronger the load on the screw can be.
For installation use a screwdriver or screwdriver. To avoid cracks on the product with a drill bit of a smaller thread diameter, make mounting holes.
Advantages of mounting shelves on screws:
- ease of use;
- low cost.
Disadvantages:
- visible screw cap (it can be disguised with special plugs);
- low permissible load;
- after several cycles of assembly and disassembly, the locking properties will be lost.
Euroscrews, or so-called confirmatics, - their difference from simple screws are larger thickness, thread pitch, cylindrical head and a blunt end.
The most popular are euroscrews 50 and 75 millimeters in size. The first type is good for working with 16 mm thick chipboard. The second is advisable to apply to the 26-mm chipboard.
For mounting the shelves, use a hex, a confirmat drill or two conventional drills with a diameter of 5 millimeters under the thread and 7 - under the head. With the help of a special drill you have the opportunity to simultaneously drill both elements under the screw thread and the cap.
Advantages of fastening on euro screws:
- it is possible to carry out a coupler of parts;
- strong fixation;
- look more aesthetic than screws.
Disadvantages:
- a cap is noticeable on the surface (it is easy to hide with caps),
- as with simple screws, the instability to the assembly-disassembly.
It is more expedient to use furniture dowels in combination with tightening elements: two dowels and euro screws have a more aesthetic appearance than two euro screws, and the fastening reliability will be much higher.
The eccentric coupler, or the so-called mini-fix, which consists of a rod, futorki and eccentric. There are models without futhorok - then the rod twists into detail, but such fixation is less resistant to repeated assembly and disassembly.
The eccentric can be located in a metal or plastic decorative casing. You can choose a color suitable for your furniture. It has a very original appearance, and there is no need to hide it.
To mount the joint using mini-fixes, you need a 5-mm drill with a stop, 20-mm Forstner milling cutter.
Benefits:
- invisible from the outside of the furniture;
- no need to hide it inside the product;
- you can pull the details;
- available bond formation;
- ease of fixing the shelves;
- Reusable installation and disassembly is not prohibited.
Disadvantages:
- relatively high cost;
- availability of special tools;
- the strength of the fastener is lower than that of evroshurupov.
Despite a number of advantages, the corner coupler is practically not used in modern furniture models, since it has large sizes and an unaesthetic appearance.
Such an attachment includes the tie itself, two futorki and two countersunk head bolts. To install, you will need: a drill, a hexagon, a screwdriver for tightening metal plates or a hammer for plastic, which you need to hammer.
Benefits:
- compound has high strength;
- elementary marking holes;
- installation availability;
- can be assembled and disassembled many times;
- invisible from the outside of the product;
- There is the possibility of screed parts.
Disadvantages:
- large sizes;
- unaesthetic appearance;
- may interfere with the installation of the remaining elements.
The choice of accessories for mounting shelves
The shelves in bookcases and linen closets are mainly made of chipboard, but in kitchen sets metal or glass can be used. Therefore, when choosing accessories for shelves, you should consider the material from which they are made, and the method of attachment desired.
For shelves that will not be subjected to heavy loads, you can use any kind of hardware.
Glass shelves should be mounted only on special overhead holders. Inside there is a rubber gasket that prevents deformations on the fragile glass surface. If the shelves will be a large load, it is better to use holders-brackets.
Currently on the market there is a huge selection of various models of fasteners, retractable and rotating mechanisms that are not difficult to install on your own. Choose only high-quality fittings - it will surely serve you for many years.
